Geewan Naga Centro: Fast and Affordable Native Bicolano Dishes

Geewan Naga Centro
Fast and Affordable Native Bicolano Dishes

When one is looking for affordable Bicolano Dishes
and does not have the luxury of time to wait for their
food being cooked in a regular restaurant, and didn’t
want to take risk of eating in an unhygienic street-
side carenderia, then Geewan is the place to go.

It offers Bicolano dishes in carenderia style in a
hygienic fast food set up, and in a hip and beautiful fine
dining restaurant ambiance at a budget friendly price.

I cannot count the number of times that we dined
in this restaurant and since they have a wide range of
dishes on display of their class encased counter, so
there is always a reason for us to return  in this restaurant.

This time, we started our dinner with their delicious
Sinigang na Sugpo, that had a perfect degree of
sourness, just enough to perk up one’s appetite.

My’s son’s favorite dish her is the Sweet and Sour Fish,
which comes in a huge slab of tuna, initially fried then
bathed in an ideal mélange of savory sweet and sour sauce.

My family never really like salty food and this blog
has been very critical with salty dishes but we all liked
the Binagoongang Lechon. Geewan had perfected the
art of putting just the right amount of bagoong to the
lechon and comes our with a delightfully briny dish.

They also served one of the best tasting Pinoy Bistek
in the city that comes with a tasty sauce interspersed
with soft, chewy and flavorful stir fried white onion.

One should also never miss the all time favorite
and iconic Pinagat,  that comes with a tasty filling
of chopped young coconut meat and fresh crablets.

We ended our meal with
Chicken Macaroni Salad,

…and we only spent a little over 300 pesos
for this delicious and satisfying dinner.

Cowan Asian Express, NAIA Terminal 3

Cowan Asian Express
NAIA Terminal 3

We seldom dine out whenever in Manila, so my family’s
dining experience in the city is limited to airport restaurants,
mall based restaurants and hotel buffet and room service.

The good thing is, NAIA Terminal 3 now hosts a good
number of restaurants and if one needs delicious Asian
dishes fast,  Cowan Asian Express is the place to go.

We were in for a few hours lay over on our
PAL flight from Naga en route to Tugeugarao,
we decided to sine at Cowan Asian Express.

While my wife and son ordered their all day
breakfast meals of  tangy Daing na Bangus,

…and a barren looking but
otherwise tasty Beef Tapa,

…and my daughter had a unattractive- looking
Ramen, that she said tasted delicious despite the
unassuming and somewhat dreadful presentation.

I feasted on their delicious Dumplings
(which I shared with everyone else, of course),

… addicting Sushis,

…Salmon and Tuna Sashimis.

I kept ordering for refill until I was informed
that they ran out of both  sushi and sashimi.

Cowan Asian Express is a reliable source
of delicious Asian dishes, at the NAIA 3,
served fresh and fast for people in a hurry.

Annelle’s Magsaysay: Flavors of Home

Annelle’s Magsaysay
Flavors of Home

I have reviewed Annelle’s original branch in Centro
in the past and never had the chance to do so with  their
new restaurant in Magsaysay Avenue as it was difficult to
get a parking space as it is always packed on weekends.

We finally had a chance to dine during the All Saint’s Day
while everyone headed to the cemetery, we headed to
Annelle’s in Magsaysay, finding a parking was a breeze,
and we were delighted to see few diners in the restaurant.

It was a pretty and dainty restaurant with touches
of old European/English rustic country cottage,

…and my wife had a haunch that it was designed
by Biboy Belleza, who also designed our house,
me and my wife’s offices, and our laboratory.

So she asked the staff who designed the restaurant
and confirmed that indeed, it was Biboy who did it.

We all decided to order their Perfect Plates
menu that comes with rice, a side dish and
a soup, but  instructed the waiter to serve
the food in a way that we could share them.

So that’s exactly what he did. He served the rice
on huge handsome and exquisite porcelain plates,

…the utensils were on a lovely porcelain box,

...and the soup on immaculate white bowl and was
neither attractive nor appetizing as it looked bizarre.
It had specks of gross, dark orange colored oil floating
on light- orange colored broth. It had the taste of slight
tomato sourness with and hint of tangy kalamansi.
Whatever it was, it tasted weird and nobody liked it.

We ordered Bacon Wrapped Shrimps, where the
plump shrimps were wrapped in bacon, dipped in batter
and then fried to deliciously- chewy brown perfection.

The Baby Back Ribs came as a small lump of dark
colored meat. I have always wanted my ribs in slabs
and glowing with attractively pinkish or reddish hue.
Annelle’s baby back ribs was tender and falls of from
the bones, it tasted okay but nothing to rave about.

The Malasugui Steak was very delicious.
It appeared like the fish had been pre- fried
then bathed in soy sauce and topped with
fresh zucchini and crunchy white onions.

I have always loved the Special Homemade Meatloaf
in Annelle’s even on their old original restaurant at the
city center. This time it was even made doubly delicious
as they had bigger servings of meatloaf in this new branch.

The best dish for the night was Grilled Honey Chops.
It came as a generous slab of tender honeyed pork
grilled to a lip-smacking, juicy medium rare perfection

We ended our dinner with a serving
of delicious Fruit Salad as a dessert.

Indeed, Annelle’s homey ambiance and delicious
home- cooked meals would make one feel at home.

Delightful Sbarro's Naga: Anatomy of Delicious Italian Lunch

Delightful Sbarro's Naga
Anatomy of Delicious Italian Lunch

Fortunately, Sbarro opened its first ever store in
Bicol right at my hometown in Naga, City- and
unfortunately in an uncomfortably crowded location
at the perpetually crammed SM City Naga foodcourt.

So we have no choice but to order food to go
to enjoy our favorite pizza and pasta dishes,

…away from the hustle in bustle,

…where you can just close you eyes and
savor the goodness of a real Italian meal,

…right at the comfort of your home.

Oh, how I wish to see a full Sbarro restaurant the city,
where the whole family can dine and laze for a while
after enjoying a deliciously satisfying Sbarro dinner.
