Funiculaires de Fourviere are the only two

operating funicular of Lyon which used to have

five lines on its Funiculaires de Lyon network.

We took the line Saint-Jean,

 

...climbing the Fourvière hill,

 
  

…with a stop right in front of the

La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière

The funicular was built 1878,

 

…and was apparently refurbished in 2018.

 

It takes the passengers from Vieux Lyon,

 

…uphill to the Fourvier Hill,

 

…and back.

 

 

 

 

The hill is where the famous cathedral,  
and the Tour Metallique are located.

 

The Fourvier Hill also has a view deck,

 

...that provides an unobstructed view 
of the beautiful, ancient city of Lyon.
