St. Mary’s Cathedral: Breathtaking Red Brick Church (Yangon, ASEAN’s Jewel Series 14 )

St. Mary’s Cathedral
 Breathtaking Red Brick Church
Yangon, ASEAN’s Jewel Series 14

Yangon’s Saint Mary's Cathedral also known as
Immaculate Conception Cathedral is the largest
Catholic church in this predominantly Buddhist city.

Built in 1895, this impressive neo-Gothic red-brick
building with classic spires and a bell tower front,

…it is one of the most stunning
churches I visited in my lifetime.

The interior was floridly decorated,

…with alternating red-, white- blue and green-bricks,

…creating an eye- catching intricate patterns,

…that then brickwork makes the church seem to
move and pulsate like a living and breathing entity.

The Cathedral is also decorated with
some exquisite stained glass windows,

…a display Stations of the Cross
series made of alabaster relief,

…and beautiful, vaulted ceilings.

.

St Mary’s Cathedral is situated on 15 acres of land,

…and very well-kept church,

... with beautiful well tended churchyard,

…neat manicured quiet gardens,

…providing an escape from the hustle
and bustle of downtown Yangon.

It is a beautiful and stunning church,

… in and out,

…and a must visit place
