Calle de Alcalá is apparently the longest street
in Madrid and has a total length of more than
10 kilometers. It originates from Puerta del Sol and
stretches up to the northeastern outskirts of Madrid.

Calle de Alcalá is apparently the longest street
in Madrid and has a total length of more than
10 kilometers. It originates from Puerta del Sol and
stretches up to the northeastern outskirts of Madrid.
We accessed the Calle de Alcalá from
the Parque del Buen Retiro main gate,
facing the Plaza de la Independencia.
After taking souvenir
photos at Alcala Gate,
...we decided to take the Calle de Alcala route
on our way back to our hotel in Calle Arenal.
In 1837, a popular Scottish travel writer and journalist
Henry David Inglis, described it as a "street of superb
width, flanked by a splendid range of unequal buildings".
Indeed- our eyes feasted with admiration
on the countless neo- classical buildings
lining the busy thoroughfare along the way.
When we arrived at the Fuente de Cibeles,
…we posed to take photos of the beautiful
neo- classical buildings surround the area,
…like the Post Office Building,
…and the Sepblac or the Federal Office Building
which at that time was undergoing renovation.
Right ahead was the Metropolis Building,
or Edificio Metrópolis at the bifurcating
corner of the Calle de Alcalá and Gran Vía,
… a beautiful French, Beaux-Arts building,
designed by Jules and Raymond Février .
From the Metropolitan building we turned
left and took the Calle de Alcala route-
…back to Plaza del Sol, which as that time was
crowded, as there was an on going rock concert.
Calle de Alcalá is one of the oldest streets in the city.
which took its name the old road that originated from
the city of Alcalá de Henares and continued to Aragón.
A leisurely walk on this beautiful main street Madrid
is a feast to the senses and a scenic walk to remember.
