The lovely Calle de las Huertas is
a pedestrianized street in Madrid,
…a route we took when we
visited the Prado Museum .
It gently descends from the Plaza del Ángel,
a block away from Plaza
Jacinto Benavente,
… to the Plaza de la
Platería de Martínez.
It was named from the "orchard of the meadow"
as it was the land
located adjacent to the meadow
of the Jerónimos
during the seventeenth century.
In its route, well preserved historic buildings
like Nuevo Rezado , the Santoña and Molins.
In the 18th century it was named Máiquez
Street,
in honor of the popular Spanish
actor and patriot
Isidoro Máiquez, one of the
best artists of his time.
Calle de las Huertas had
a legendary vile reputation
of being a red light district and a center of prostitution
in the past that inspired malicious phrases like
“Huertas- a street, with more whores than doors”.
At present, the historic Calle de las Huertas
has transformed into a quaint neighborhood, lined
with charming home based tapa bars, restaurants,

We were fortunate to have beautiful chosen this route,
...on our way to Prado Museum.
