Fame and Infamy

Fame and Infamy
Time Magazine's Tribute to a 'Bicolanang Oragon'

When Time Magazine announced that President Rodolfo Duterte
topped the on- line poll for the magazine’s 100 most influential
people in the world, his die hard Filipino supporters rejoiced for
what was supposed to be a 'colossal honor' that he received.

However, when the magazine was released, to everybody’s surprise,
he shared the ‘honor’ with the feisty  Bicolana Senator Leila de Lima,
a human rights lawyer and Duterte's most vocal critic whom he put to jail.

Little did they know, that is was a vote between fame,

After the publication, a deafening silence among Duterte fanatics

Afternoon Tea at Cafe Plazuela: Avenue Plaza’s Relaxing Tea Break

Afternoon Tea at Cafe Plazuela
Avenue Plaza’s Relaxing Tea Break

The best place in Naga City to while away the scorching
summer heat is to book a room at Avenue Plaza Hotel,

…and head for the pool to swim,

…and have a relaxing Afternoon Tea
at Cafe Plazuela with family and friends.

They have several sets of tasty afternoon tea packages,

...and we ordered three sets.

Each set is filled with delightful pastries,

...cakes,

...breads,

...puddings,

...muffins,

...sandwiches,

...and to my little cookie monster son's delight- cookies.

The choice for tea is varied,

…and they are served in a porcelain teapot.

My son however opted for cookie milk dunking snack,
his favorite  pastime, in lieu of an afternoon tea time,

…while my wife opted for a coffee.

Coffee, milk or tea, whatever you choose,
everyone is guaranteed to have  an awesome
experience and a tasty snack at Café Plazuela.

McDonald’s Fish and Fries: Delicious and Addicting

McDonald’s Fish and Fries
Delicious and Addicting

My family’s favorite comfort food is Fish and Chips
or in some cases, Fries and we never fail to order
this  dish if offered in the menu whenever we dine.

When we learned that it is available during the holy week
at McDonalds, off we went to find out how it would fare
compared to our all time favorite- Sydney’s very popular
Bondi Beach Fish and Chips, our gold standard for this dish.

McDonald’s Fish and Fries was served in a small
plastic basket, with the perfectly fried golden brown
fish, and a heaping mound of French Fries on the side.

The fish was fresh with extremely light breading,
it was lightly seasoned, which was my ideal-
gloriously crunchy on a bite on the outside,

...tender and juicy in the inside  but not greasy at all.

Although it tasted great even with nothing on it,

...the tangy tartar sauce gave it an extra tasty kick.

Fantastic fish of Bondi Standard. No need to review the world’s
best fries. It was love at first bite on fish and fires in McDonalds.

According to the store it is available for a limited
period of time during the Lenten season, but I
hope it stays forever as it would surely be missed.

Edgardo’s Sinangag Plaza: 24/7 Pinoy Breakfast at Centro Square

Edgardo's Sinangag Plaza
24/7 Pinoy Breakfast at Centro Square

Edgardo’s Sinangag Plaza originated from Camarines Norte
and recently opened a branch in Centro Square in Naga City.

Centro Square is a huge dormitory/hotel and business complex
so it is understandable why the restaurant is always full packed,

…as it is affordable and has captive costumers like in- house
hotel guests and students staying in the dormitory, as well as
from the nearby Universidad de Sta Isabel and Ateneo de Naga.

There is really nothing extraordinary in Edgardo’s Sinangag Plaza
as the restaurant serves nothing but generic Pinoy breakfast combo,

…like Tosilog that stands for a rice meal with
tocino, sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (egg),

Porksilog (pork chop, sinangag and itlog),

Bangsilog (Bangus or milkfish, sinangag and itlog)

Hotsilog (Hotdogs sinangag and itlog),

…and Shanghaisilog ( Lumpia Shanghai, sinangag and itlog)

Being named as sinangag plaza, I was expecting
a variety of fried rice dishes, yet they have nothing
but an unexciting soy- sauce based, garlic fried rice.

The servings were generous and filling and  for
75 pesos per set meal, it is very budget friendly.
