The Vieux Lyon or Old Lyon in English
the city's oldest district, and protected
by law as one of France's cultural sites.

 

It is one the most extensive Renaissance districts
in Europe and at the foot of the Fourvière Hill.

 

The Saint John quarter is one of the three sections
of Lyon Old Town and considered as the political   
and religious center during the Middle Ages.

 

The Gothic Cathedral of St John is the
seat of the archbishop of Lyon, and the
centerpiece of this gothic neighborhood.

 

Nearby is an extensive
ancient cobbled roads,

… lined with Renaissance-era mansions with
hidden courtyards and terracotta-tiled roofs,

 

…that houses fine-dining restaurants,



 

… stylish bars,

 

…souvenir shops,

 

…and the famous Movies & Miniature Museum that
showcases scale models by miniaturist Dan Ohlmann.

 

We came at the time when there was an
on going Vieux Lyon Medieval Festival,

 

…people dressed on the Dark Ages costumes,

 

… re- enacting and recreating
     how it was during those days.



It made our visit in Vieux Lyon more surreal-

 

…as we were transported back to the
sights and sounds of the middle ages.

Vieux Lyon is an attraction that should
not be missed by anyone visiting the city
