The Lyon Zoo was created as one of the

main attractions of Parc de la Tete D’or

and opened at the same time as the park.

It was only meant to create a farm

for educational purposes with some

domesticated and wild animals on display

…but slowly evolved

to become a real zoo.

The zoo now houses animals

from different parts the world.

Set in over six hectares of land,with several hundred
animals, including very rare species like the Barbary
lion, which has been extinct in the wild since 1922.

The newest development of the zoo was

a vast area called The African Plain.

Also known as "La Plaine Africaine"

it opened in 2006. where there are
about 130 different animals on display.

Some of the animals n this section

belong to rare and protected species-

…and being an open zoo,

…they live in freedom on 2.5 acres

of simulated African environment.

Parc de la Tete D’or’s Lyon Zoo may not be as extensive

as compared to other zoos we visited in other countries,

…but it is a beautiful,

…well- kept,

…well maintained zoo-

…that does not charge any entrance fee.

Indeed- there a truth to the old adage

that the best things in life are free.

Parc de la Tête d'or is the

biggest urban park in Lyon ,

Also known as the "Park of the Golden Head"

it is one of the most visited parks in the city and

a frequent destination for joggers and cyclists.

The main entrance, at the southeast corner has an

enormous wrought iron gate with impressively gilded

features known as the Porte des enfants du Rhône,

or the Gate of the children of the Rhone in English.

The park has large grassy areas and rolling terrain,

…perfect for picnics and excursions,

…play various sports,

…or just for plain lazing

a do some people watching.

The park has a vast lake where people can go

boating and indulge in different watersports.

Part of the park are convention and leisure centers,

including the International City of Lyon and the

Amphitheatre of the Palais des Congrès of Lyon.

The park also has greenhouses, a botanical garden,

sports facilities, such as a velodrome, boules court,

mini-golf, horse riding, and even a miniature train.

The Parc de la Tete D’or is Lyon’s answer to

New York’s Central Park that offers not only

leisure but peace and quiet in the heart of the city

After a long drive from Lyon to Les Avenières for a theme park
visit only to find out that the Walibi Rhône-Alpes was closed..
We drove back to Lyon and spent the day at The Village Outlet.

We were hungry and we stumbled upon an
American diner called the Vegas Kitchen,

…and we decided to dine there.

My son chose the Old Town Burger.

It was a perfect choice for picky boys

as nothing could go wrong on good- old

classic American hamburger. He loved it.

My daughter got curious with the

Dirty Beef Burger so she got one.

She was served with a bun- less

juicy grilled burger topped with egg.

My wife had Fish and Chips, her all time favorite,

it was reeking with oily but was still very delicious.

While I had a huge Classic Hotdogwith everything

on it which a gobbledup with gusto like there was no

tomorrow.It was so good, it was disappeared in a flash.

We were starving when we came to Vegas Kitchen

and they had big servings. perfect for big appetites.

We experienced a double whammy for two
consecutive days in Lyon. First we went
to the Galeries Lafayette Lyon Part- Dieu
and it was unexpectedly closed on a Sunday.
